Quit Rents Ceremony 2006

This photo was taken in the Smoking Room, Middle Temple, following the 10th October 2006 Ceremony of the Rendering of the Quit Rents to the Crown by the Corporation of the City of London featuring the gift of implements from the Ceremony [displaying the annual contributions of an example of one of the 6 horseshoes plus three of the 61 nails and an example of the two knives of which one dull and one sharp which cut the wood, also shown] from Master Turner, the Queen's Remebrancer, for display in the Guildhall.

Standing from left to right are the Broad Street Ward Club Chairman Robert Barnes, The Queen’s Remembrancer_Master R L Turner, Deputy of the Ward of Broad Street Archie Galloway OBE, and Chief Commoner of the City of London Gerald Pulman.

The Ceremony itself was held in The Lord Chief Justice's Court, Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand London WC2, and is the oldest surviving ceremony next to the Coronation itself. The Ceremony included the presentation to the Sheriffs of the City of London, including our President of the Broad Street Ward Club, Alderman and Sheriff David Lewis, of Warrants, the tangible proof of Her Majesty's approbation of their appointment as Sheriffs of the City of London.
